The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency (2008: directed by Anthony Minghella) is the first full-length drama movie actually filmed in Botswana. Previous movies supposedly set in Botswana, such as the South African propaganda film The Gods Must be Crazy (1980-81) and Hollywood's A Far Off Place (1993), and the 39-part part U.S. television series Okavango: The Wild Frontier (1992-93), were filmed elsewhere with foreign actors.

The main film industry in Botswana produces wildlife films for international television and theatrical distribution. A recent article in Botswana Notes and Records is titled "A Hundred Years of Botswana Films and Filming". URL to copy TO BE PLACED UNDER "bnr" ON BOTSOC SITE
